Why Talk About It

There are some words and phrases dispatchers prefer to avoid in the Comm Center. The “Q” word being one of the most common. Another word that is avoided is LIABILITY.

Every job has some type of liability attached. Just like officers out on the street, dispatchers can be held liable for things they did OR didn’t do while behind the mic. Some liability is unavoidable due to the nature of the job, but participating in trainings and reviewing illustrations of pitfalls can be helpful in decreasing the risks.

The best way to avoid liability, is in fact, to talk about it, learn how to minimize the risk, and then talk about it some more.
